Trieste è la porta di accesso in Italia per i migranti che arrivano dalla cosiddetta rotta balcanica. La città vanta un sistema di inserimento territoriale eccellente e contemporaneamente vive una situazione gravissima per quel che concerne l'ingresso nel sistema italiano. Pif parte dal confine con la Slovenia, seguendo le tracce del passaggio delle persone che attraverso i boschi arrivano in Italia, e incontra poi Gianfranco Schiavone, presidente del Consorzio Italiano di Solidarietà-Ufficio Rifugiati Onlus, che da anni segue attivamente la situazione e si batte per dare un aiuto concreto a queste persone dimenticate.
