Kay i Cream po raz pierwszy spotykają się w szkole średniej. Oboje są sierotami. Kay został porzucony przez matkę, która zostawiła mu jednak znaczną sumę pieniędzy. Cream natomiast, straciła całą rodzinę w wypadku samochodowym. Stają się dla siebie bratnimi duszami i postanawiają razem zamieszkać. I choć Kay widzi Cream wymieniającą chłopaka za chłopakiem, postanawia utrzymać swoje uczucia do niej w tajemnicy. Wiedząc, że największym strachem Cream jest pozostanie samej, Kay nie wyjawia jej, że ma raka i pozostało mu kilka miesięcy życia. Nakłania ją jednak do zawarcia małżeństwa z miłym i zdrowym mężczyzną. Gdy Cream zapowiada, że kocha się w zamożnym lekarzu Joo-hwan, Kay ma złamane serce, ale jest zadowolony, że poznała swojego idealnego partnera.
