三绝庄掌门星龙长老有三名徒儿，诺英、慕容白及夏侯谆，三人苦练武功，对付邪派恶人谷。长老以比武选出继任掌门，夏侯谆施计逼害二人，慕容白妻子若诗为救夫而死，慕容白遂把亲生儿放入木盆内，随河流飘去，自己则跳崖以表清白。 林嫂拾得一木盆，内有一婴，收养之，取名林盆，林盆身上有一玉牌，林嫂据为己有，并给亲生儿林碟戴上。 二十年后，林嫂安排二人到三绝庄做棚工，怎料林盆在施工时不慎见到对面欲洗澡的诺思，被其误会是色狼，困他们在庄内。 慕容白命人捉拿恶人谷诸葛青云时，铁头陀放下一块七杀碑在庄门外，以示宣战。 另边厢，林盆和林碟逃出三绝庄，林嫂遂要他们到省城考衙差，二人出发之前，淑娥送行，林碟把玉配赠与淑娥，之后二人乘船离去。 林碟天生神力，顺利过关，林盆则名落孙山，林碟求师爷给林盆上任，师爷要求他们付三十两才会答应，林盆因此入赌坊，结果把所有路费都输掉。 林盆知捉到通缉犯有赏金，遂要林碟扮贼，虽然林盆成功获得奖金，但林碟则被关到衙门。
