　　兰丸一行人为了追赶流浪的温泉艺人雅来到毛增村，先是遇到滑坡，后来又陷入杀人案中。每到这种时候，毛增村里的刀具都封印在雷神寺的祠堂。因为兰丸、宽治、小光带刀进村，村人认为是他们带来了邪祟，把他们监禁起来。村中只有町子肯帮助兰丸等人。在她帮助下，总算没闹出大事，不过，相信报应的雷神寺住持神村精进很讨厌女儿町子与兰丸一伙人在一起。村长赤池慎太郎宣布自己负责兰丸等人，作为“波外之汤”的主人，他命令儿子辰也在旅馆监视三人的行动，总算平息了事态。只不过，应该负责监管兰丸等人的辰也却下落不明。町子向兰丸等人讲述了村中封刀习俗的由来。七十多年前，村中某外来户的丈夫杀死了背着他偷情的妻子和她的十一个情夫，后来丈夫被村民乱刀杀死，死前发下诅咒，而杀死丈夫的村民也被雷击而死。第二天，兰丸听波外之汤的女招待唱了村里流传甚久的《毛鞠歌》，从歌中兰丸有所发现。这时，辰也的尸体被人发现。他的死法与《毛鞠歌》中说的一样。村人更认为是诅咒所致。正当此时，住在山脚的薮医生赶来验尸，为兰丸等人解了围。兰丸发现此人就是在前几个温泉与雅有来往的光头男人。薮医生向兰丸解释说他是雅的医生，前几次是到温泉给雅送药。小光要兰丸用神之舌破案。兰丸只得去舔尸体，有了意外的发现。
